When do public holidays come around in 2025?

In Luxembourg, there are 11 statutory public holidays during the year. 

Here they are in chronological order for 2025:

• January 1st: Wednesday 01/01/25
• Easter Monday: Monday 21/04/25
• May 1st: Thursday 01/05/25
• Europe Day: Friday 09/05/25
• Ascension: Thursday 29/05/25
• Whit Monday: Monday 09/06/25
• Luxembourg National Day: Monday 23/06/25
• Assumption: Friday 15/08/25
• All Saints' Day: Saturday 01/11/25
• Christmas Day: Thursday 25/12/25
• La Saint-Étienne: Friday 26/12/25

All Saints' Day falls on a Saturday. This holiday should therefore be added to the basic statutory vacation entitlement for full-time employees, which is 26 days in Luxembourg. By 2025, we should therefore have a total of 27 days' vacation. 

As you can see, this year's public holidays are well timed, allowing us to enjoy long weekends with as few days off as possible. 

With January 1st already behind us, let's take a look at how we can optimize the upcoming vacation periods.

Extended weekends in 2025

No, you're not dreaming: you can enjoy 6 weekends of 3 days each, without having to take a day off. It's the perfect opportunity to plan a change of scenery, a city-trip, or simply a long weekend away: 

• Easter weekend: Saturday April 19, Sunday April 20 and Monday April 21
• 2nd weekend in May: Friday May 9, Saturday May 10 and Sunday May 11 
• Whitsun weekend: Saturday May 7, Sunday May 8 and Monday May 9
• National Day weekend: Saturday June 21, Sunday June 22 and Monday June 23
• Assumption weekend: Friday August 15, Saturday August 16 and Sunday August 17 
• Christmas weekend: Thursday 25, Friday 26, Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 December

Two weekends that can be extended

By taking just 1 day off, you can enjoy 2 weekends of 4 days each:

• 1st weekend in May: by taking Friday May 2 off work 
• Ascension weekend: by taking Friday May 30 off work

Vacation in May?

The month of May, with the return of fine weather and public holidays, is undoubtedly the ideal time to take a short break.

This year, if you take Friday, April 2, Monday, April 5, Tuesday, April 6, Wednesday, April 7 and Thursday, April 8, i.e. 5 days off, you can enjoy a nice week and a half of vacation. In this way, you stop working on Wednesday April 30 and start again... on Monday May 12.

A profitable year-end

In December 2025, if you ask to take Monday 22, Tuesday 23 and Wednesday 24 off work, you'll get a full week's vacation, with just 3 days. 

This is good news for those who want to take a break at this time of year, and take the time to prepare for the festive season with peace of mind. 

It's also a winning combo for families with children, since this week in December is also a school vacation. 

Booking your vacation in advance: a good idea?

Now that you have a good overview of the 2025 calendar, you can start looking ahead to your vacations, and even think about booking now.
