When the weather turns grey, our comforting places to eat and drink
November 26, 2024
When temperatures drop, a hot chocolate or a winter dish, alone or with friends, is one of the pleasures of the season. In Luxembourg, there's no shortage of comforting addresses. Here's our selection of tables and counters that accept the Pluxee Lunch card. Each in its own way, they offer an invigorating and comforting moment in the face of persistent gloom.
Mountain chalet atmosphere
An après-ski evening without having gone skiing during the day is perfectly possible in Luxembourg. Just a few kilometers away from the crackling fire, checkered curtains and Savoyard fondue!
The scraped raclette
For a 100% ski atmosphere, head to the Kreuzerbuch chalet. Located 4 kilometers from the Gaichel ski area (near the Belgian border), at an altitude of 382 meters, you can enjoy Savoyard-inspired dishes. Among the season's must-tries are genuine raclette “ that can be scraped ”, reblechonnade, and, of course, Savoyard fondue. And if you want to take the concept to the next level, there's a “Les bronzés font du ski” evening on December 5.

Vegan fondue
Brasserie O, in Niederanven, welcomes you all year round in a chic and relaxed setting. This winter, from November to March, its ephemeral chalet offers a menu with an Alpine accent, with two special features: a Savoyard fondue with truffles and a vegan fondue! The chalet is available for private hire. For full details, visit the Brasserie O website.
Right in the heart of Christmas
Right in the center of Luxembourg, la Bracerie du Cercle is transformed into a mountain chalet from November 22 to January 5. With a direct view of the Place d'Armes and its Christmas market and lights, enjoy the magic of winter for a meal. The menu is varied: tartiflette with Savoy Reblochon, Rösti, special raclette burger and mountain tarte flambée.

A touch of originality
If you're looking for a change of scenery, but still want to stay in the cocooning mood of winter, there are a number of places in Luxembourg that offer an out-of-the-ordinary experience.
By the light of stained glass
La Table de la Chapelle, a restaurant and gourmet grocery, is an original place, to say the least. Based in a former chapel in the Rue de Neudorf, not far from the Kirchberg, you can enjoy fondues, raclette and tartiflette this winter in the glow of the heritage-listed stained-glass windows, in addition to the weekday menu and the usual à la carte menu. Brunch is also available on Sundays.
Did you say “industrial-chic”?
The “Schräinerei” was once a carpentry workshop in Differdange. Today, the premises have been transformed into a cosy bar-restaurant in the “1535 creative hub”. Here, you can enjoy a drink or a meal, as well as cultural and social exchanges between generations. There's no shortage of events this winter, including several afterworks and brunches in December.

Eat or read, there's no need to choose
How would you like to spend your lunch break face-to-face with your favorite book? In Diderich, there's a place where you can combine the pleasure of reading with that of eating a delicious homemade lunch. “Um Eck” is a café-restaurant in the heart of a bookshop! Everything is cooked with locally-sourced produce and an anti-gaspi philosophy. No reason not to try it!
More of a sweet tooth?
Coffee shops are all the rage these days! What could be better, when it's freezing outside, than comforting yourself with a hot drink and a slice of fluffy cake?
The not-to-be-missed pastry rendez-vous
A not-to-be-missed rendezvous for patisserie in Luxembourg, Namur offers artisanal preparations based on recipes that are sometimes very old. Located in several areas of the capital and the country, Namur's tasting rooms offer a rich and varied menu of cakes, cookies and pastries. Whether eat-in or take-away, you won't be disappointed by the quality of the products on offer.
Scandinavian atmosphere
When you open the doors of Café Nordbo, you're instantly immersed in a soothing Nordic ambience. This pretty little café-restaurant is run by Scandinavians and offers typical sweet specialties like kanelbullens and nøddehorn. You can also enjoy breakfast and lunch here (Nordbo also caters for savoury appetites). A discreet address worth discovering!

Just around the corner
Located in the train station district, Florence describes itself as a local café that sources its beans directly from African producers. You can drink coffee from a transparent and honest business, in a very relaxed atmosphere. A special feature is that you can also order your own coffee beans for the office or home. An address not to be missed.
