Where to find a bargain in spring?
March 4, 2025
In March, the weather gets milder and outdoor events return to Luxembourg. At the various markets, flea markets and garage sales, it's possible to pick up some great bargains. Here's a selection of events and our tips on how to make the most of them.
As a couple, alone, with your children... the open-air markets are open to all and free to enter. For an even more enjoyable experience, the best way to get there is by public transport, which is free throughout the country. It's a great opportunity to spend a day with the family, and to grab a bite to eat at the local brasserie with your Pluxee Lunch card.
Local markets and their fresh produce
When the fine weather returns, instead of shopping in the supermarkets, it's a good idea to visit the country's local markets from time to time. The inimitable atmosphere, the smell of fruit and vegetables and the lively discussions are just some of the reasons to go and stock up on fresh, regional produce.
Luxembourg City has two weekly markets throughout the year: the city center market, held on Place Guillaume II every Thursday morning, and the train station market, also held every Thursday morning on Place de Paris.
In the rest of the country, you'll also find what you're looking for. Whether in the north, south or central regions, many regional markets are organized on a (bi)weekly or monthly basis.
Weekly morning markets :
- Tuesday in Diekirch, pedestrian zone
- Tuesday and Friday in Esch-sur-Alzette, place de l'Hôtel de Ville
- Wednesday and Saturday, Luxembourg City, Place Guillaume II
- Thursday, Luxembourg City, Place de Paris
- Thursday, Dudelange, place de l'Hôtel de Ville

Flea markets and their gems
March is also the month of flea markets and garage sales. The perfect opportunity to stroll the springtime streets and pick up some bargains.
Luxembourg City offers three major flea markets:
- The Glacismaart is the largest market in the country. It takes place on the Glacis field every 3rd Sunday of the month, from March until November. You'll find everything from gourmet foods and textiles to household goods and second-hand goods stalls. It's a great place for the whole family to stroll around, and there's even music and children's entertainment on offer.
- The Marché à la brocante takes place on Place d'Armes, from March to October, two Saturdays a month. It brings together professionals selling second-hand furniture.
- Unlike the Place d'Armes market, the Place Guillaume II flea market brings together private individuals selling second-hand goods of all kinds. Dates for 2025 are not yet known.
Elsewhere in the country, the town of Remich is organizing two flea markets: a special children's flea market on March 23, where families can hunt for second-hand clothes, toys and childcare equipment, and a traditional flea market on April 13. In Dudelange, on May 17, you can browse the town's flea market for unusual and precious items such as books and records.
Many other towns in the Grand Duchy have similar events planned for spring 2025. To make sure you don't miss out, visit vide-greniers.org
Our 5 tips for good bargains
There are those who bargain for pleasure, and there are those who have a very specific goal in mind: finding a new floor lamp for the living room or a vintage coffee cup set. Whatever you're looking for, here are 5 tips to help you unearth the best opportunities.
1 – Get up with the lark
It's golden rule number 1: if you want to find the most interesting items, you have to get up early and go before everyone else. The rarest items and the best bargains often disappear very quickly.
2 - Gather your spare change
In the digital age, it's becoming rare to carry cash in your wallet. But if there's one place you're going to need it, it's at a flea market. So now's the time to empty your piggy bank and put the cash you've saved to good use.
3 - Anticipate transport
Depending on what you want to buy, don't forget to take a bag, caddy or cart with you. It would be a shame to see your find pass you by just because you can't take it with you.
4 - Check the condition of the goods
This is an important point: don't hesitate to ask to weigh the item, to turn it over, to examine it in all its forms to detect any defects or signs of wear. If you spot a defect, you may be able to bring the price down.
5 - Showcase your negotiating skills
You'll have to put your shyness aside. Don't worry, haggling is common practice at this kind of event. Sellers are used to it. Besides, it's all part of the experience!
